The mom who started it all…
Grams Place was born from the heart of a woman named Virginia—though most knew her simply as Gram. She was the kind of woman who could comfort a crowd with nothing but love, laughter, and a well-seasoned skillet. Her kitchen was the center of every celebration, her table the place where generations gathered.
After we lost her in May of 2019, we knew her legacy needed to live on. Her daughter Millie (with her husband Bruce) and granddaughter Barbara (with her husband Adrian) rolled up their sleeves and got to work—restoring a retired train depot in Nebraska City and transforming it into something truly special. Brick by brick, recipe by recipe, the four of them poured their time, love, and talent into creating a space where families could come together, slow down, and enjoy a meal that feels like home.
Grams Place is more than a restaurant—it’s a tribute. Every dish is a nod to Gram’s love for cooking and her passion for bringing people together. A lot of our staff are family, and those who aren’t are aptly treated as such. At Grams, we believe good food should be abundant, laughter should be loud, and no one should leave hungry.
Come in for the food, stay for the warmth—and make a memory or two while you’re here. That’s what Gram would’ve wanted.
“Do the best with what you’ve got, and to hell with the rest!”
